Preparation for Jack Post

Figure 1

Before you can wrap a "jack post" with Pole-Wrap™, the entire post must first be housed in an outside shell. We suggest using plastic ABS or PVC pipe, usually available at plumbing supply stores. Another alternative is a cardboard carpet tube.

Select a pipe size with an inside diameter large enough to fit around the widest part of the jack post, usually about 4 inches. Choose a length that you can cut down to fit snugly between the soffit/header and floor.

Step One: Cut the tube in half lengthwise as show in Fig. 1. A jigsaw works well for this; however, these cuts don't have to be perfectly straight.

Step Two: Trial fit the PVC halves around the jack post (see Fig. 2). Then permanently secure one tube half to the jack post with construction adhesive—apply adhesive to the inside. Usually a healthy bead applied to where the tube half meets the ceiling and floor is adequate, but glue applied to the surface of the jack post will ensure a secure fit.

Step Three: Apply construction adhesive along the two vertical edges of the PVC. Now, affix the other half and wrap masking tape around the entire unit (top, middle, and bottom) to hold it in place while drying.
Step Four: After adhesive is dry, trim away excess adhesive with a utility knife. You are now ready to install Pole-Wrap according to the instructions enclosed or printed on the back of Pole-Wrap's instruction sheet.
